Beneficiary: Sanok City Commune
Polish partner: City of Humenne
Implementation period: 01/04/2020 - 30/09/2021
Realized project value: € 55,052.87, including ERDF co-financing: € 43,965.22
The cooperation of the partner cities resulted in the implementation of a joint project aimed at increasing the attractiveness of the existing Icon Trail in order to increase the number of visitors and strengthen the cross-border effect that was achieved after the successful project entitled "The Trail of Icons from Sanok to Humenne". As part of the project, both sides - Polish and Slovak - implemented investment activities (construction of a mini-park and a "Pumptruck" track) and accompanying soft activities (opening events, summary conference and printing of folders). The young generation enjoyed the investments the most. Thanks to the implemented project, interest among children and adolescents in cycling tourism and active spending of free time outdoors has increased.
The main activities carried out under the project:
- Construction of a small architecture facility - mini-park at ul. Mickiewicz in Sanok. Basic equipment of the mini-park was purchased and installed, with particular emphasis on bicycle acrobatics - a pumptrack track and a mini-park. Making the surroundings of the Icon Trail more attractive by building a small architecture facility "attracts" both new recipients and existing lovers of cultural heritage.
- Organization of an outdoor sports event on the occasion of the official opening of the mini-park. In addition, the event was made more attractive by the performances of a dance and acrobatic group. A number of competitions and shows were organized. A total of 40 competitors took part in three competitions and were awarded with cups and diplomas.
- Construction of an asphalt "Pumptrack" in Humenne combined with the ceremonial opening. "Pumptrack" is suitable not only for demanding MTB fans, but also for families with children and the elderly who want to take care of their physical and fitness. In the vicinity of the cycle track, the City of Humenne has also built a rest area consisting of a gazebo, benches and accompanying elements. A bicycle competition was organized during the opening ceremony. Due to the pandemic situation, the project partner - the City of Sanok took part in the grand opening combined with competitions, without the competitors.
- The conference: "Cycling tourism of the Polish-Slovak borderland" was organized on-line with the participation of Polish partners who contributed through active participation. The conference was aimed at joint cross-border promotion of cultural and natural heritage in the borderland. The event was attended by 10 speakers (6 Slovak and 4 Polish speakers), the total number of participants was 65 people.
- Publication of promotional brochures containing basic information about the project, cycling tourism and the Icon Trail and the Švejk Trail.
